Welcome to JTAM!
Founded by a small group of Michigan Japanese teachers in 1995 funded by the Japanese Language Education Mini Grant, Japan Foundation, Los Angeles, the Japanese Teacher's Association of Michigan (JTAM) has now grown to include over 50 members. JTAM serves Michigan teachers of Japanese at the Pre-K-16 levels. From it's inception to today, our goal has always been the same: to promote Japanese language and culture education and to support Japanese language educators in Michigan.
JTAM provides its members with opportunities to share teaching ideas and discuss relevant issues concerning Japanese language education today. To facilitate this, JTAM offers its members bi-monthly professional development meetings, bi-monthly professional journals, and this website complete with a conversation board to allow members to share ideas and ask questions.
JTAM partners with the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit, the Japan Business Society of Detroit, and the Center for Japanese Studies at the University of Michigan to provide students across Michigan with opportunities to experience and explore Japanese language and culture through annual events such as the Michigan Japanese Quiz Bowl and the Michigan Nengajo Contest.
Thank you for visiting JTAM and we hope to have you as a member!
